The incredibly frustrating thing about the drones is that no one ask sensible questions. Have you tried to shoot them down? Are you able to track them with radar? Have you been able to take clear pictures of them? One would surmise, they cannot shoot them down, and they can't track them on radar, because if they could, they'd know where they came from. It therefore seems that the most likely explanation is that they are aliens trying to look like human drones. It seems crazy to think that, but there's no other logical explanation. Perhaps they want us to become gradually acclimated to the idea Aliens are visiting us.
They are part of military procurement and testing. The military will stonewall this ESPECIALLY with the FBI which is even more corrupt than they are. They all have lights, and are usually seen over airports and military related locations in NJ and NYC. Less risk to civilians in case of a failure.

Locking down cutting edge physics only being researched in a few mostly american universities in the 1940s is a lot simpler than doing the same with fairly well established and already publicly widely distributed technology in the 2020s.they could lock down the majority of big name AI companies but enough people have access to the repositories with offline backups that they would simply need to retrain with large datasets, and enough of these people are far enough outside of the sphere of influence/control of the US that they would likely have to just killswitch the Internet
